Description

Sarah Schembri is a Melbourne Ceramic Artist who is passionate about creating functional, tactile and visually appealing ceramics, particularly tableware. Being a lover of cooking and food in general, she is most interested in making pieces that are a pleasure to use in the home, pieces which are not only visually appealing but also functional & tactile.

“There is something quite special about using pieces that are handmade - the experience and food taste better. This is a feeling that I think about when I'm creating, it's part of the experience I want to share with others.” - Sarah

19 February 2019 • Wheel & Wine Night/Afternoon

We had a great afternoon at Sarah’s wheel & wine event! The food & wine was amazing and Sarah was a great teacher, giving lots of tips and helping out. Loved my creations and can’t wait to see them glazed. Highly recommend this to anyone!

27 January 2019 • Studio Access - Hand Building

The space is beautiful and well organized. I signed up for the Hand Build open studio since I have done Hand Build and throwing back home in Chicago. I was a bit disappointed when I got there once I saw the type of clay used. It looked like a reused clay clumped together which made it super rough and not easy on hands to work with. There were some hard pieces in the clay itself which left some small cuts on my hands working with them. It is mentioned not to bring any material but I would recommend bring your own since I could not find some of the things I would have liked to work with. I tried to make 2-3 pieces in the 2 hour slot I had booked hoping to come back the week after to glaze them as well. Once I checked I was told two of my pieces were cracked so basically I thought there was no point in keep paying since the clay might not work for most people at least form where I come from. I so wanted to find a space to be able to work on my own and so wish this could have been it but sad to say it wasn't. The owner is very nice though but again this is not for me or for anyone who is looking for something similar to I was.

Great environment to practice throwing on the wheel. Even provided coffee and sweets!
