Description

‘Monoline’ is an extremely versatile lettering style characterised by its consistency in weight that shows no contrast between strokes. This introductory class is a great entry point to all other methods of handcrafted lettering.

In this hands-on three hour class, Casey will teach the basic strokes that combine to create a monoline alphabet and how to hold and angle the pen. She will then guide you through basic lettering principles such as letter shape, spacing and proportion, as well as what makes good lettering, consistency, rhythm and simple embellishments.

Casey will share effective techniques and her top tips and tricks to creating beautiful, expressive hand lettering (which will travel home with you in the form of a take-home resource booklet given to each participant). You’ll also walk away with an improved knowledge of Typography and brand new tactile skills to apply to anything from posters, cards, logos, artworks, personal projects and beyond.

This workshop is perfect for those who are new to Typography as well as
creatives looking to improve their typographic technique or learn a new style. This workshop has limited places to ensure everyone gets plenty of help and guidance throughout the class.

Who is Casey Schuurman?

Casey Schuurman combines her talents as a designer and illustrator into the specialisation of Typography and Lettering. She is a big believer in beginning by hand, which has led to her love of bringing ideas to life with expressive, handcrafted Typography. When Casey is not working on freelance projects - for clients such as Mecca Maxima, T2 Tea, Macquarie University, Moose Toys and Oscar Wylee - she teaches workshops, experiments with personal work and takes road trips to The Dandenongs for a sketch in the sun.

Casey shares her work and sells Lettering focussed products and resources on both her Instagram @caseyschuurman and her website, www.caseyschuurman.com.

25 September 2018 • Introduction to Monoline Lettering

Casey is the sweetest and very passionate about what she does. She keeps her classes small so everyone gets their individual attention, and she sends you home with a booklet and supplies so you can keep practicing without stopping by a shop first :) It felt more like friends hanging out than a class. If you are debating whether to take this workshop or not... TAKE IT!

This course was excellent! I loved every minute of it, and Casey was full of helpful tips and knowledge on the subject. It was the prefet fusion of the traditional craft of using ink, but she also has tips on integrating it with design programmes. Thank you!
