Painting the Floral Still Life

Most of us don’t give much attention to the ordinary objects around us. But the magic in still life paintings shows that a different way of looking at these commonplace objects can give them a whole new different meaning. Arrange them in a certain manner, depict them with a certain medium (whether that be in oils, pastels, watercolors), suddenly a new life is breathed into these everyday ‘things’, and their existence becomes recorded in time.

In a new class by Artclass Co, the everyday object in focus will be the flora. Flowers are unanimously perceived as beautiful, but they don’t last very long, which makes them a popular subject for still-life painting. In class, attendees will discover the wonderful difference of painting from life versus a flat photo. It is said that still life is the best subject for learning the skills of drawing and painting. Students will learn how to properly study the subject matter - how it turns, how the light hits it, where the values of dark and light are - all to produce an oil painting directly from a stunning arrangement of flowers in just one day.

‘Flower Painting Masterclass’ runs on July 14th, Saturday from 10.00am to 5.00pm. Book now or find out more about the class in the link below.
