Linocut Workshop

Linocut Workshop

A full day hands on workshop with Tess Joy

Description

Linocut is a basic relief printmaking technique that gives bold graphic results. It has been a favoured technique by many international masters including M C Escher, Matisse and Picasso (colour image) and there is a strong tradition of this medium in Australia. It is a go to medium for modern, contemporary and Indigenous artists.

In this workshop Tessa, a highly experienced artist, teacher and curator will provide some background on the techniques, artists and tradition of linocut. You will learn how to adapt your design to suit this medium, transfer the image and cut the lino. You will have the experience of making prints using a single plate in black and white and consider options for a black and white pattern or a minimal colour scheme.

For a greater challenge we will create a multi-colour lino print using the reduction or multi-plate method. This is an interesting process for making limited edition complex, coloured prints. We will consider options for inking and printing and learn how to register your print so it is centred on the paper. You could expect to finish this workshop with a least 3 finished prints.

Bring along your own idea or design to really personalise this experience.
