Tutored body positive life drawing class

Over 10 people have attended this class

Description

Tutored Life Drawing Workshop taught by Elias Youssef (assisted by Frances Cannon), hosted at Pink Ember Studio.

THIS IS A FULLY VACCINATED WORKSHOP

PLEASE WEAR YOUR MASK

MUST BE 18+ YEARS OF AGE

This 4-week series will prioritise queer and marginalised bodies (both models and students) and provide a positive, affirming, and safe environment in which to learn. These classes are tutored and critiqued, and the focus is on learning and advancing the practice of life drawing. For this series, some prior experience with life drawing is expected (i.e. having attended life drawing classes in the past).

Each class will begin with a short presentation designed to expand your knowledge base and improve your work.

Topics covered:

WEEK 1: Light and Shadow

WEEK 2: Composition

WEEK 3: Portraiture

WEEK 4: Long study

If you have any questions about signing up for class, please don’t hesitate to contact Elias via email: hello.fortytwolines@gmail.com.

Class structure

5:00pm - Doors open, everyone chooses their materials and gets settled.

5:10pm - Class begins with a short slide presentation, in which the tutor introduces the class and talks about the focus for that evening. This may be general principles, structural anatomy, approaching light and shadow, or specific drawing techniques.

5:30pm - Life drawing starts, beginning with short warm-up poses (30 seconds - 2 minutes) then increasing to longer sittings.

7:00pm - Class finishes.

Students can expect

To have all materials provided for - drawing supplies (charcoal, pastel, ink), paper, and standing easels (though if you do have your own materials that you prefer, you are welcome to bring those).

To advance your drawing skills in a positive and judgement-free environment

To be guided through a variety of drawing techniques and principles

To be able to ask questions and receive critique, both during class and during breaks

To learn how to use different materials including graphite, pastel, charcoal, and ink.

Class guidelines

No photography or use of mobile phones while the life drawing is taking place

Generally keep talking to a minimum, unless you are asking the tutor for advice/feedback, which is also done quietly out of respect for the model

Any disrespectful people will be asked to leave

All supplies must be left at the studio (you may take your drawings with you)

Accessibility

If you are attending a workshop, please let us know if you have accessibility requirements prior to your visit.

There are two front entrances to the space: a doorway entrance and a large roller door that can be opened for full access to the workshop area. The floor is sealed cement.

Bathroom

Our bathroom is currently not fully wheelchair accessible. There are no steps leading to the bathroom, but there is a ramp and some doorways to manoeuvre through. The bathroom has a door with a width of 75cm.

We are in the process of applying for grants to get a fully accessible bathroom installed in our building; this will most likely happen by 2025.
