Join Melbourne artist Judith Van Heeren in our gorgeous Fitzroy studio for a one-day workshop learning the  basics of watercolour painting. This workshop runs several times per year, and focuses on nature studies according to the season.

In the morning you will be taken through a series of exercises, learning a range of techniques in order to understand the medium and it's possibilities, including colour-mixing, washes,  building up tonal values and creating form. After a lunch break you will return to the studio to make a small watercolour study utilising the skills learnt and have your own masterpiece to take home.

This workshop is suitable for complete beginners and those wanting to refresh skills

Throughout the workshop there will be practical demonstrations, one-on-one guidance and the opportunity to ask questions.  All materials, morning and afternoon refreshments are provided.

Fitzroy Painting also has watercolour kits for purchase in studio and at checkout, kits contain eight  tubes of artist quality watercolours, a porcelain palette,  10 hand-torn sheets of 300GM cold-press watercolour paper and three special brushes.

Our 4 - week beginners courses in oil painting, drawing and watercolours are designed for the complete beginner, taking you through a series of exercises and building your skills week by week. Students may choose to continue to our Beginners Courses Level 2 and 3 in both painting and drawing..  Ongoing students are supported to help develop their own direction, with optional exercises offered to expand on skills and knowledge, and our Atelier students are assisted in taking it to the next level in professional practice.

Love the class? All students wishing to extend their course may purchase class-passes for ongoing students at a discounted rate. Some of our students have gone on to Higher Education courses and are now exhibiting professionally!

Evening classes include wine and refreshments, and morning classes include tea, coffee and cakes. Classes run for 3 hours and basic equipment is available for student use at the studio, including easels, palettes and drawing boards. I thoroughly enjoyed this introductory watercolour workshop with Judith. All materials were set up for us ready to start learning the medium. Judith is an excellent, caring and generous teacher, encouraging us all along the way . By the end of the day I was very happy to take home a few studies of beautiful shells. I love what can be created with this medium! Thank you for such a beautiful day of learning in this gorgeous studio. Can’t wait ti come back for more lessons ! Warm Regards, Svetlana
