So you've decided that 2024 is the year you will finally get to grips with composting.  This session will set you on your way and teach you how to set up a compost bin, how to look after it and what do when things get smelly or go awry. Great for beginner gardeners, but also very useful to anyone who wants to get their compost super productive and quickly.

We will cover what is compost, how it is made, the role of the Carbon : Nitrogen ratio and provide you with a basic compost recipe, including what to do and add to accelerate the composting process.  We will also dig a little bit deeper ito the alchemy of composting to ensure you keep your pile productive and problem free.  But just incase, we will identify the most common problems and remedies, setting yourself up to succeed with your first new years resolution!

Cutting food waste is the most effective action an individual can take to reduce personal emissions. Kitchen and garden waste make up a large portion of what many households throw into the home garbage bins which creates methane in landfill, a toxic greenhouse gas.  Be a part of the solution by starting your own healthy active composting system.

This session is one of five in a Masterclass Series "New Year, Greener Garden". Other topics include - Garden Journalling; Minimizing waste, through recycling and other thrifty approaches; Water-Wise Gardening: Thriving with Less; Sustainable bounty - growing enough.

Therese presented the information clearly and with helpful graphics. Her personable style engendered trust in the advice she was giving about the best ways to compost.

This was very interesting and informative. I learnt a lot even though I've been composing for years, not that successfully, I might add. At least the soil improved over time. I put in a summer and winter crop with a green rejuvenating compost crop at least every other year or two. My veggie garden as well as my roses, shrub and flower garden looked beautiful for the open times .
