Can you believe it? The new year has just come around and already Valentine’s Day is fast approaching. And whether you’re lovelorn or love-satisfied this time of year, don’t neglect the most important relationship you’ll ever have: the one with yourself.

It’s inevitable that there will be times when we’re left alone with only ourselves, and we need to be able to embrace that. So if you don’t consider yourself cool or beautiful, and all that other good stuff, then it’s time to get to work! There’ll be endless articles on the internet that talk about how and why you should love yourself more (such as this, this and this) - but here we’re going to tackle an aspect we know best: Loving yourself more by adding to your repertoire.

But why? Personally, I’ve recently taken up painting, and I found that it has served me well as a stress reliever (because I enjoy what I am doing), and a confidence booster (because I learned that it’s another thing that I’m good at!). I’ve also gained quite a few friends who have the same interest. Spending time on a hobby I love has made me happier in more ways than one, and when you can make yourself happy? Self-love ensues. ❤️

If you don’t currently have a leisure activity that you enjoy, or are keen to explore a new one, we’ve come up with a few tips and ideas to finding an interest that fits your personality. Go through the list, find which description fits you, and see what class captures your attention!

V-Day Date Ideas with Your Favourite Bae

The Boss Babe

You’ve got the biggest goals and been called crazy once or ten times for that reason exactly. Society can never scar you, and you’re going to stick by your dreams no matter what. You believe in the equality of opportunities for women and men, but have no interest in talking gender politics because you’re too busy making shit happen. On top of all that, you’re a creature of exquisite taste and refinery. You’re a fun, fearless, witty, rebellious diva that it doesn’t even make sense!

The Travel Enthusiast

Some people never have the urge to step outside their home. But you? You can’t sit still within the confines of a room. You constantly daydream about airport information boards and faraway places that you can no longer deny it - you’ve caught the wanderlust bug! And this doesn’t just mean you have this irresistible longing for travel. You also like to push yourself out of your comfort zone, take risks, and walk the path less travelled. The wanderlust bug is a glorious thing to have. There is no cure for it - so embrace it and cement as many possible extraordinary experiences into your heart as you can!

The Culinary Explorer

You know the best cuts of meat, you’re aware what variety of wine pairs best with your meal, you try all kinds of restaurants (after you’ve stalked them thoroughly beforehand, of course) and you can provide the best food places in an area at the drop of a hat. In fact, if you check your cupboard right now, we’re willing to bet that they’re chockful of fresh herbs and spices. You’ve either been around the world and have eaten everywhere, or have an extensive collection of cookbooks and Food Network binges. Either way, we’d still say you’re a true blue culinary adventurer.

The Millennial Martha

You know you’re a millennial Martha when you see something you like and tell yourself, “I can make that instead.” Between you and your friends, you’re the one with the bag full of everything (safety pins, anyone?) just in case someone needs it. You’re a little mason jar obsessed (okay, a lot) and every corner of your home is Instagram-worthy. You’ve been told you have an impressive set of craft, cooking and decorating skills that you ought to make a career out of it. And hey, maybe you ought to!

The Millennial Mum

There was a time when people would shake their heads over some mindless thing you did, but nowadays you’re finding that it’s you who’s shaking your head over what kids are up to these days. This is a telltale sign you are millennial mum, and you know what? You should be proud! Millennial mums can sometimes get a bad rap for always being on their phones and taking selfies, but let’s not forget they’re also tech-savvy, highly-educated, and progressive individuals. Parenting has been changed forever thanks to millennial mums (and dads) who often demand the highest standards and the best opportunities for their children. They overwhelmingly put their children first, and we think that’s a good thing.
