Stencilling Colourways
Description
This exciting new print workshop introduces young artists to the fun and fabulous world of colourful pochoir printmaking!
Inspired by the French pochoir technique popularised in the 1940′s by artists like Matisse, children will explore how to create silhouettes, contours, motifs, and even portraits with stencils.
Developing skills in paper folding and cutting, tamariki will begin by creating their own original stencils to generate a series of prints exploring colour and pattern.
Led by printmaker and experienced tutor Ina Arraoui, we’ll learn how to apply ink with dry stencil brushes and experiment with the technique of repeated stippling to build up a range of vibrant colourways.
Taking inspiration from the Studio One Toi Tu group exhibition Variation and Autonomy: The Prints of Contemporary Japanese Painters, children will be emboldened to expand their creativity and produce unique artworks of their own.
By the end of the workshop, our young artists will have produced various multicolour prints with overlapping colourways through the transparency of layered ink.
