Description

Knives are humanity’s oldest tool, older even than our management of fire and the hardest working knives in the world are kitchen knives, that we all use everyday at home.  But what if we told you---you could learn to make your own knife!   In this two day course, you will create your own kitchen knife, guided by a local Melbourne metalsmith.  

You will learn how to grind, sand, heat treat and sharpen your own knives all while learning about the fundamentals of good knife making.  By the end of the course, you’ll walk away with your own two knives, true kitchen heirlooms. You’ll also have gained knowledge about how to make knives using the stock removal method, heat treatment and will have the foundations to further your knife making skills.

This is an active workshop, please wear appropriate clothes for a workshop and close toed shoes.

Indigo brings 10 years of experience as a fine jeweller to Cut Throat Knives. She is an exceptional teacher and meets people at their level.

Her work has appeared in MONA tasmania and she is currently working to pass the journeyman test in the ABS.

She brings a positivity and passion to the craft that is infectious.

Throughly enjoyed the two day course. Learnt so much about knife making and very proud of my two knives. Indigo was a terrific instructor - her patience, knowledge and clear instructions made the jammed packed sessions so much more enjoyable. It was an addictive experience and want to go back and do more.

Cancellations & Refunds

If the organiser cancels the class:

You are entitled to a full refund.

If you can't attend the class:

You’re welcome to send someone in your place.

OR

  • A refund can be requested 7 days before class starts. Free of charge.
  • A transfer can be requested 7 days before the class starts. Free of charge.

No changes will be allowed after these times.

Terms & Conditions

Anyone partaking in any classes or coming to any events at Cut Throat Knives or organised by Cut Throat Knives must agree to these terms and conditions.

1.) LIABILITY WAIVER

I agree to take on full responsibility for any damages, injuries and for physical and/or personal property, which I might incur whilst participating in classes and/or events organised by Cut Throat Knives

2.) PHOTO & VIDEO

I agree to give Cut Throat Knives unrestricted publishing rights for any photographs or videos taken at Cut Throat Knives  classes and events or on Cut Throat Knives premises. (For use of Cut Throat Knives marketing materials).

3.) SAFE WORK PRACTICES

If an attendee is asked to leave the class for any reason they will not be entitled a return of moneys spent. We DO NOT tolerate unsafe work practices nor any rudeness towards our staff or other attendees.


4.) AGE

Age Restriction: By purchasing a Class position, the purchaser is confirming that the participant(s) is 18 years old or older. ID may be requested on the day to confirm the age of participants and failure to produce appropriate documentation will result in the participant to be asked to leave.


5.) WEATHER
36+ Degrees: If the temperature is going to be above 36 degrees we reserve the right to cancel the class. If this happens a suitable class transfer will be offered as an alternative replacement. This is a safety requirement and we can not safely operate a class if the workshop is too hot.


Waiver and Release: During all such times that you are on Cut Throat Knives premises both your property and your person shall be at your own risk. You agree that Cut Throat Knives shall not be liable for any loss, damage or theft of any property belonging to you or your guest occurring on Cut Throat Knives premises except where caused by gross negligence of Cut Throat Knives. Additionally, Cut Throat Knives shall not be liable for any death, personal Injury or illness occurring to you or your guest on Cut Throat Knives premises or as a result of the use of any facilities or equipment provided by Cut Throat Knives, except to the extent that such death, personal injury or illness occurs from the gross negligence of Cut Throat Knives.
