Stone Set Ring Class - Beginner Class

Stone Set Ring Class - Beginner Class

Hand forged ring with bezel set stone

Over 20 people have attended this class

Description

Stone setting is a fabulous, hands on skill to learn and can be applied to so many of the metalwork arts.
You'll see examples of it in rings, earrings, pendants and bracelets to name a few. The addition of Gallery wire for the bezel, adds a beautifully intricate touch to the design you choose.

In this class, we’ll learn to create a bezel and shank to size, and solder the delicate gallery wire to a back plate to hold the stone of our choice.

Beginners are welcome- just bring a sense of humour and play, and come join me for Stone Setting Class. See you there!

BEGINNER CLASS: No experience necessary. I will teach you everything you need to know to complete this project on the day.

+ More

What you will learn

  • Fun class that will focus on a number of fundamental metal skills, such as sawing, filing
  • You will learn about shank making, soldering, stone setting, finishing and using patina.

What you will get

  • Coffee and tea are available for you at anytime

What to bring

  • A full kit of materials is included in your class fee, and tools will be provided.

What to wear

We are working with fire and really hot metal, so there are a few things that we have to do before we start. 1) Long hair must be tied back, with no stragglers. Headbands are great to keep it from falling forward of your face. 2) Clothes should be of natural materials: Cotton, bamboo, hemp, wool etc. Polyester and Nylon are made from plastic- and plastic melts if something hot lands on it! Sleeves need to be rolled back out of the way. T-shirt and jeans are a great choice, with a flannel shirt if it’s a bit chilly. (I will have an apron here to cover your clothes, so you don’t have to bring your own.) 3) Just like our bodies, our feet need protecting too. Tools are sharp, things are hot, and everything falls downwards if we fumble, so closed toe shoes are a must. Boots, sneakers- anything without gaps will do. 4) Personal jewellery should have as little ‘dangle’ as possible.

Appropriate for

This is a confident beginner class, available to those from years 16 and up.
