Shadowbox Pendant - Intermediate Class

Shadowbox Pendant - Intermediate Class

Hand-forged hollow form pendant

Description

Hi there, and welcome to the Shadowbox Pendant class!

This is a fun-filled, INTERMEDIATE level, hands on class for the metal enthusiast who is ready for something a bit more challenging!
We’ll be diving into the world of hollow form jewellery- learning new skills and refreshing old ones with metal forming, shaping, soldering a larger piece, stone setting in a constricted area, and of course, patina, polishing and finishing.
This will get your creativity cooking, and your fingers itching for more, so come along to Gilded Poppy Makery for a day full of laughs, great company, new friends and leave with a beautiful new piece to show friends and family.
This listing is for a copper piece. Sterling Silver is available with advanced warning and at an added material cost to be paid on the day.
I'm looking forward to seeing you there,

Cheers

Storm

INTERMEDIATE CLASS: You will need to be competent with your Jewellers saw, files, hammers and hand-held butane torch. As an Intermediate student, you should now be able to do basic soldering, and have a good understanding of the materials used regularly (silver, brass, bronze, copper).

What you will learn

  • This is an exciting class, designed to challenge you to step up to the next level in your metalsmithing journey. Get ready for plenty of belly laughs, sanding dust, pining sawblades and sparkly stones- this class is full of challenge!

What you will get

  • You'll be with me from 10am to 5:30pm (unless you're all speedy and we finish up earlier!) so I'll have morning tea ready for you when you get here. Coffee and tea are available for you at anytime, and when we break for lunch, there are a number of cafes and eateries nearby, or you can bring your own lunch if you prefer.

What to bring

  • Just yourself! A full kit of materials is included in your class fee, and tools will be provided.

What to wear

We are working with fire and hot metal, so there are a few things that we have to do before we start. 1) Long hair must be tied back, with no stragglers. Headbands are great to keep it from falling forward of your face. 2) Clothes should be of natural materials: Cotton, bamboo, hemp, wool etc. Polyester and Nylon are made from plastic- and plastic melts if something hot lands on it! Sleeves need to be rolled back out of the way, and an apron tied over your clothes to stop anything loose from falling forward. T-shirt and jeans are a great choice, with a flannel shirt if it’s a bit chilly. (I will have an apron here to cover your clothes, so you don’t have to bring your own.) 3) Just like our bodies, our feet need protecting too. Tools are sharp, things are hot, and everything falls downwards if we fumble, so closed toe shoes are a must. Boots, sneakers- anything without gaps will do. 4) Personal jewellery should have as little ‘dangle’ as possible. Charm bracelets and chunky rings are gorgeous but get in the way when working with your hands, and are better left at home, or in your bag for the duration of the class.

Appropriate for

This is an intermediate level class. Student must be confident with a butane torch and familiar with soldering.
