From Enamels to Rings - Intermediate Class

From Enamels to Rings - Intermediate Class

Richly enamelled adjustable ring

Description

It's a colour day today at Gilded Poppy Makery!
Have you ever wanted a piece of jewellery that is uniquely and unmistakebly yours? Well, this class is for you!

Using rich, lead-free enamels, warm copper, sterling silver and semi-precious stones- you will be making a wrap ring that reflects your personal style.
There is a lot to get through in this one day class, so you will need to have taken the Intro to Enamel class as prep for this one, and be familiar with setting a cabochon, basic riveting and soldering with a butane flame torch.

This is an Intermediate level class, perfect for diving into and exploring your own personal style, so come and join me for a day of fun at Gilded Poppy Makery!

INTERMEDIATE CLASS: You will need to be competent with your Jewellers saw, files, hammers and hand-held butane torch. As an Intermediate student, you should now be able to do basic soldering, and have a good understanding of the materials used regularly (silver, brass, bronze, copper).

What to bring

  • Just yourself! A full kit of materials is included in your class fee, and tools will be provided.

What to wear

We are working with fire and really hot metal, so there are a few things that we have to do before we start. 1) Long hair must be tied back, with no stragglers. Headbands are great to keep it from falling forward of your face. 2) Clothes should be of natural materials: Cotton, bamboo, hemp, wool etc. Polyester and Nylon are made from plastic- and plastic melts if something hot lands on it! Sleeves need to be rolled back out of the way, and an apron tied over your clothes to stop anything loose from falling forward. T-shirt and jeans are a great choice, with a flannel shirt if it’s a bit chilly. (I will have an apron here to cover your clothes, so you don’t have to bring your own.) 3) Just like our bodies, our feet need protecting too. Tools are sharp, things are hot, and everything falls downwards if we fumble, so closed toe shoes are a must. Boots, sneakers- anything without gaps will do. 4) Personal jewellery should have as little ‘dangle’ as possible. Charm bracelets and chunky rings are gorgeous but get i

Appropriate for

This is an intermediate level class, and requires a prerequisite of the Intro to Enamel Class. Students must be confident with a butane flame torch and familiar with soldering. You will be required to wear a KN95 mask while the enamels are open on the table.
