SS2 What I wish I knew about Spinning
Description
PLEASE NOTE: This is not a beginner’s spinning session. You can spin a single (but it doesn’t have to be great!) This session is aimed at those who can spin, but feel they are stuck, are frustrated with their results or have gaps in their basic knowledge and want to fill in the blanks.
You may be a self-taught spinner. Maybe you want to make the transition from a drop spindle to a wheel. Or you may have started spinning again after time off and need a refresher.
What is covered?
This session will take you through the raw fibre-to-yarn process; expanding your understanding of each stage and demonstrating a variety of methods that you can practice at home to help you achieve the yarn you are aiming for.
Each stage of the journey is covered and demonstrated. From washing fleece and using a range of techniques and tools to prepare it for spinning. Drafting methods, producing fine, medium or bulky yarns, tips for achieving consistency, spinning for larger projects, the how, the why and methods of producing a balanced 2- and 3-ply yarn. How to use Landscape dye and finishing your yarn ready to use.

Your Teacher
Cheryl began spinning in her teens and then promptly stopped; never happy with what she produced. She always had the thought at the back of her mind that she would return and, when she finally did, blundered around and achieved great frustration. As each dissatisfaction arose she gathered tips and techniques from workshops, readings, videos, pestered experienced spinners and attended the Guild’s Certificate of Spinning (twice [long story]). She is constantly asking “what happens if I try this …?” Or “How can I improve that?”
Handweavers & Spinners Guild of Victoria has an average rating of 4.9 for their other classes.
