Description

Junko will show you how to: grind and prepare your own Sumi ink, make and use different Sumi ink tones and learn brush techniques to create traditional Japanese ink painting (Sumi-e) on Washi paper made from the mulberry tree. Learn to feel and capture the meaning of objects from nature with your interpretation, then express the objects variously with brush pressure, rhythm, tones and confidence in your strokes.  

You'll not only learn brush stroke techniques but also experience the whole process gaining an understanding of the history of Japanese ink painting, what it represents and how to express yourself through your work.

What a wonderful class. I came with no prior experience and hadn't held a paintbrush since I was a child. Junko Azukawa is very patient and encouraging teacher. I found quite a welcoming and friendly place and would encourage anyone even remotely interested to try it out.

If the organiser cancels the class:

You are entitled to a full refund.

If you can't attend the class:

You’re welcome to send someone in your place.

OR

  • A refund can be requested 2 days before class starts. An admin fee of AU$5.00 applies.
  • A transfer can be requested 2 days before the class starts. Free of charge.
  • A credit note can be requested 2 days before the class starts. Free of charge.

No changes will be allowed after these times.
