Introduction to Japanese Ink Painting
Description
Junko will show you how to: grind and prepare your own Sumi ink, make and use different Sumi ink tones and learn brush techniques to create traditional Japanese ink painting (Sumi-e) on Washi paper made from the mulberry tree. Learn to feel and capture the meaning of objects from nature with your interpretation, then express the objects variously with brush pressure, rhythm, tones and confidence in your strokes.
You'll not only learn brush stroke techniques but also experience the whole process gaining an understanding of the history of Japanese ink painting, what it represents and how to express yourself through your work.
What you will learn
- You will learn how to make Sumi ink and use the traditional materials, while gaining an understanding of ink tone, basic brush strokes, and the importance of rhythm

- Students will not only learn the techniques required to practice this art style, but experience the calmness and meditative process of the art

- Materials supplied and some materials available to buy for furthering your practice.
What to wear
Apron or art smock, clothes you don’t mind getting ink on accidentally.

Junko is a master of ink painting with many years experience teaching the technique to students. She is gracious and generous with her guidance, enabling students to create beautiful works of art in an afternoon.

If the organiser cancels the class:
You are entitled to a full refund.
If you can't attend the class:
You’re welcome to send someone in your place.
OR
- A refund can be requested 2 days before class starts. An admin fee of AU$5.00 applies.
- A transfer can be requested 2 days before the class starts. Free of charge.
- A credit note can be requested 2 days before the class starts. Free of charge.
No changes will be allowed after these times.
