Want to progress to throwing large objects, but too scared to start?  We are excited to bring you this masterclass from an actual master in large object throwing.

In this 6 week class you will explore throwing a range of different types of large vessels, each weighing more than 3 kilograms.  The dates and format is as follows:  

Week 1 - 28 Aug - A brief explanation and orientation on cylinder making.
Week 2 - 11 Sept - A focus on energy trimming.
Week 3 - 18 Sept - Jar trimming and making a bottle with a narrow neck.
Week 4 - 25 Sept - Trimming a bottle with a narrow neck and making a wide ball.
Week 5 - 2 Oct - Wide ball trimming and the opportunity to ask additional questions/techniques
Week 6 - 23 Oct - Glaze treatments

The class size is limited to 4 people to ensure that each student is able to get individual attention when necessary.

Please take note of the class dates, as there are some gaps in between.  There will not be the opportunity for make up classes in this series.


Kim woochang is a contemporary artist of ceramics living and teaching in Sydney Australia. In his 19 years as a ceramic artist, Kim woochang has mastered both traditional and creative techniques of ceramics. Kimwoochang endeavours to capture the human emotions and expressions through his ceramics.

Kim woochang received both a bachelors and masters degree in ceramic craft from Kookmin University in Seoul, Korea.

Student age 

MakerSpace is an 18+ facility, and our classes and facilities are designed for adults.

The reality is that MakerSpace is simply not set up to accommodate children. For further information please click here:

Disabled access 

Unfortunately our new space cannot offer suitable wheelchair access. We are currently working on improving our facilities to make them accessible for all. 


We have very limited parking spaces on Gerald Street so if you're driving here please allow time to look for parking on our street or nearby streets. 

Students must wear covered shoes, have long hair tied back and wear appropriate safety gear when using equipment.  All students will be shown how to use appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment).

 MakerSpace &company and its tutors will provide training in how to use all equipment and relevant machinery and tools to students during the course.  It is essential that no equipment or machinery be used while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

 While all care will be taken, it is the responsibility of the student to follow all instructions and use all the equipment in a safe and responsible manner.

Cancellations & Refunds

If the organiser cancels the class:

You are entitled to a transfer or credit note.

If you can't attend the class:

  • A refund can be requested 5 days before class starts. An admin fee of AU$25.00 applies.
  • A transfer can be requested anytime before the class starts. Free of charge.
  • A credit note can be requested anytime before the class starts. Free of charge.

No changes will be allowed after these times.

Terms & Conditions

Kids in classes: MakerSpace classes are designed for adults. Kids aged 14-17 can book this class on the condition that an accompanying adult also participates - which means booking two places. If you have questions about kids in the workshop, please read this.
