Description

In this workshop, Alena will teach you the key skills you need to be confident in pursing your passion in Hand Lettering. This course is for beginners, but anyone is welcome.

The course will begin with the warm up drills you need to practice before any lettering project. These drills introduce you to the pressures and strokes of the brush pen.

After the warm up round is over, we will move onto the alphabet – both upper and lowercase letter. Each letter will be deconstructed into strokes to help you understand how the letter is formed.

At the end of the class, you will be confident to write your own favourite quote!

You will leave the workshop with confidence, key skills of lettering & your own brush pens and worksheet!

Teacher Profile:

Alena is a Sydney-based graphic designer and a self taught Hand Letterer/Calligrapher. Her passion for anything hand written started from younger years, when back in Russia her mother taught her cursive writing. This passion grew stronger during her studies at University whilst she was studying Bachelor of Visual Communication.

Overwhelmed by how much the digital era is taking over, Alena picked up the brush pen, the nib pen and started learning the art of brush lettering & calligraphy. Now she is eager to pass this skill on to people who are eager to learn this art, as she believes that writing with our hands is a skill that should never be replaced by a font/typeface.

My husband and I are visiting from the U.S.A. and I fortunately found this work-shop online by browsing "What to do in Sydney on a rainy day". How fortunate that we came across this lettering class! Our instructor was very talented and helpful. FIVE STARS! Immediately she set the whole class at ease and we began 'working' almost right away. We had a wonderful time and it was money well spent. Our next visit to Australia will hopefully be next year, and we will certainly check out the classes you are offering when we come. Thank you so much, Abigail and Sam Alfano
