Description
Learn the steps of painting in reverse on perspex, to create a personalised portrait emulating the iconic style of New Zealand painter Sam Mitchell.Providing the perfect blend of one-on-one learning within a self directed and collective working environment, this workshop is designed to allow space to uncover our own creativity alongside the support of Sam’s expert guidance.Together we’ll learn how to curate independant elements and cohesive colour schemes, while developing brushwork techniques and an understanding of our medium and surface.
Join us for this unique portraiture workshop to create a stunning artwork while gaining valuable skills and insights into the world of contemporary art.

- EVERYTHING is provided - but bring some images or photos of the peraon you with to create a portrait of.

The Corban Estate Arts Centre is located in Henderson, West Auckland.
We’re home to artist studios, our very own cafe, art classes for adults, youth and children, and an ever-changing programme of exhibitions and events.
Set within park-like grounds amongst historic winery buildings. Open Monday to Saturday, entry is free, everybody’s welcome.

Your Teacher
Sam Mitchell was born in Colorado Springs, USA, attending Elam School of Fine Arts and graduating in 1997 with a BFA. In 2010 Mitchell won the Wallace art Award which included the prize of a six-month Artist Residency in NYC, USA at the International studio and Curatorial Program. Since then, Sam has done seven National and International Artists residencies, exhibiting regularly in Aotearoa, along with having many works featured in publications. Mitchell’s artworks are held in both public and private collections, worldwide.

- A deposit is required to secure your place and payment must be made in full to confirm your booking.
- Cancellation by Corban Estate Arts Centre entitles the participant to a FULL REFUND.
- Cancellation by participant up until 7 days before the workshop commences results in a transfer where possible OR full credit to be used within 6 months of cancellation date OR a full refund MINUS a 10% admin & booking fee.
- Cancellation by participant within 7 days of the workshop commencement date results in a transfer where possible OR full credit to be used within 6 months of cancellation date OR a full refund MINUS a 30% admin & booking fee.
- Cancellation by participant on or after the workshop commencement date results in NO refund given.
