Aliens and Outta Space
Description
Take one small step... into an imaginary universe with professional illustrator Stephanie Thatcher, for a fun two-day sculptural workshop, creating a space scene with alien creatures inspired by a galaxy far, far away!
Using moulding clay and wire, we’ll learn how to translate our preliminary drawings into three-dimensional characters, before carefully sculpting their detailed features adding expression and personality with paint and brush.
To finish off, we’ll build a small-scale diorama backdrop to represent the planet or solar system for our alien creatures to live in. Recycled, found or natural materials will add the final finishing touches to our outta space scene.
What you will learn
- To think, plan and create in 3-D. Work with a wide range of materials to produce a complete scene from outta space.

- Alien figures, straight from their own imagination, accessories + a stage to create a slice of space in. Huge learning and tactile making.

You might get dirty! Wear clothes to make a mess in!
Appropriate for
6 - 12 years old.
The Corban Estate Arts Centre is located in Henderson, West Auckland.
We’re home to artist studios, our very own cafe, art classes for adults, youth and children, and an ever-changing programme of exhibitions and events.
Set within park-like grounds amongst historic winery buildings. Open Monday to Saturday, entry is free, everybody’s welcome.

Your Teacher
Thatcher lives in Huia, West Auckland, where she makes picture books alongside her freelance graphic design work. She has always loved books, spending much of her childhood lying around reading. She also loved drawing and painting, especially sketching people and animals.

- A deposit is required to secure your place and payment must be made in full to confirm your booking.
- Cancellation by Corban Estate Arts Centre entitles the participant to a FULL REFUND.
- Cancellation by participant up until 7 days before the workshop commences results in a transfer where possible OR full credit to be used within 6 months of cancellation date OR a full refund MINUS a 10% admin & booking fee.
- Cancellation by participant within 7 days of the workshop commencement date results in a transfer where possible OR full credit to be used within 6 months of cancellation date OR a full refund MINUS a 30% admin & booking fee.
- Cancellation by participant on or after the workshop commencement date results in NO refund given.
