Winged Hero
Description
Are you an Eagle, Parrot, Dove, or Owl? Maybe you’re more like the clever Kea, or the mysterious, nocturnal Kākāpō. In this engaging workshop, you’ll get to choose your winged hero and bring them to life through paint!
Using acrylic paints on MDF boards, you’ll start by creating a dynamic texture with a modelling compound and palette knives. Then, jump into painting detail, exploring vibrant colours and cool techniques to capture the spirit of your chosen bird.

The Corban Estate Arts Centre is located in Henderson, West Auckland.
We’re home to artist studios, our very own cafe, art classes for adults, youth and children, and an ever-changing programme of exhibitions and events.
Set within park-like grounds amongst historic winery buildings. Open Monday to Saturday, entry is free, everybody’s welcome.

Your Teacher
A West Auckland local of 18 years, Leela Bhai holds a Diploma in Film and Television Make-up, Bachelor of Design and Visual Arts, and a Post Graduate Certificate in Design.
As an independent curator, her practice involves cultivating community space, using art as a tool for connection.
She has been part of the Corban Estate Arts Centre team since 2015 teaching creative workshops for children, youth and adults, responsible for engagement, encouragement and impressive outcomes. She also contributes to the public programme at Studio One Toi Tū teaching children’s holiday art classes.
When teaching, her focus is on the process, pursuing careful observation of the subject matter, experimental use of mixed mediums and pure self-expression through art.
In 2017 Leela taught a second-year student spatial design elective for the Bachelor of Creative Enterprise at UNITEC and held a mentoring role for graduating third-year students of multiple disciplines.
Leela has also designed and facilitated public workshops for the annual events of ArtWest, Love Hendo, The Didsbury Art Trail and Mental Health Awareness Week 2021.

- Cancellation by Corban Estate Arts Centre entitles the participant to a FULL REFUND.
- Cancellation by participant up until 7 days before the workshop commences results in a transfer where possible OR full credit to be used within 6 months of cancellation date OR a full refund MINUS a 10% admin & booking fee.
- Cancellation by participant within 7 days of the workshop commencement date results in a transfer where possible OR full credit to be used within 6 months of cancellation date OR a full refund MINUS a 30% admin & booking fee.
- Cancellation by participant on or after the workshop commencement date results in NO refund given.
