SS6 - Beyond Beginners Spin On
Description
So you have completed the Beginners Spinning Course and want to learn more to enhance your spinning skills. You have your wheel and might not yet understand all it can offer you. You can spin a continuous single but you would like to learn how to get a more consistent diameter in your yarn and know how to spin a finer and a thicker yarn by choice. You would benefit from this course.
What you will learn
- Your wheel - the adjustments it can offer and the adjustments you can make as you operate it.
- Preparation of fibre - the importance of good preparation and what it provides to the spinning experience.
- Lightness of hand: Learn to recognise how little tension you need to get a good result. This will help you spin longer and tire less; Spinning different thicknesses of singles/yarns - your adjustments and the adjustments you can make on your wheel; and Plying - how to get a more even result for a two or three-ply yarn and also Chain Plying.

- A working spinning wheel - please make sure that your drive band is in good condition as well as your tension set up (ie spring, tension chord)
- 150grms of wool top broken into 50g pieces.
- 3 bobbins. La.zy kate. Niddy Noddy. 1 x bobbin with a highly twisted single - for chain plying swing tags or some form of labeling for attaching to your skein

The Guild's aim is to bring together those who practise handweaving, spinning and allied crafts and to help and encourage them to increase their knowledge, understanding and skills by discussion, demonstration, exhibition, teaching and the provision of quality resource materials.
Our Guild rooms house an excellent library and craft supply, sell members work and host a wonderful range of interest groups, classes and workshops.

Your Teacher
Janet Day has been spinning since 2002 and has delved into various spinning styles. In recent years, however, her passion has been supporting and encouraging beginners and next-step spinners on their spinning journey in a confidence-building atmosphere. "You get a great deal of satisfaction seeing people advance in their skills, my role is to remind them to toss away perfection but embrace patience, practice, and persistence instead."
