Description

Abstraction with Eleanor Louise Butt

A fascinating introduction to the history of abstraction within painting, and an overview of various inspiring techniques to try!

In this one-day workshop you will learn where to begin, and explore a wide range of media and approaches.

The workshop will cover:

  • research and development of concepts
  • exploration of materials
  • mark making and composition
  • expressionism
  • colour palettes
  • developing a series

We will be working with water-based media, techniques learnt in this workshop can easily be applied to oils at home. Students will leave with multiple studies, a finished work, or several finished works depending on their personal method and style of working.

About your tutor:

Eleanor Louise Butt is a Melbourne-based contemporary artist whose practice is grounded in studio experimentation. Taking painting as her primary medium, she employs colour, texture, line, and form as strategies through which surfaces are charged with gestural energy. Expanding these techniques into bronze sculpture and drawing, Eleanor’s work adopts the potentialities of paint to create visual dialogues across a range of media, where action, experience, perception, and memory are interwoven and folded back into one another.
