Description

For me, cooking has always been about the sharing of food. It’s about the anticipation of sitting down together and having quality time to talk and share a meal.

I am the daughter of Chinese cooking legend Elizabeth Chong and granddaughter to pioneering and dim-sim inventor William Wing Young.  In so many ways I have always been surrounded by food.  I went on to study  Horticulture but found myself always wanting to plant veggies in peoples front gardens.  Later, I  designed Victoria’s first fully accredited  Asian Cookery course at William Angliss Institute  of TAFE where I taught for nearly 20yrs.

Today, my  business The Humble Dumpling, is a return to my roots and family traditions. I grew up surrounded by aunties, uncles, grandparents and many many cousins who gathered every Sunday to make dumplings.   I have such fond memories of those days and hope that my workshops and events will go some of the way towards sharing my wonderfully rich food culture.

23 September 2017 • Lets Make Dumplings Workshop

Our 11 year old grandson wanted a dumpling workshop for his birthday, and I chose Angie's from the long list of those available in Melbourne. I felt that the timing (Sunday), hands-on format and home atmosphere would be suitable for a child. As it turned out, it was a perfect choice. Angie's warm accessible language, the allocation of tasks and her warm and supportive style all added up to a most enjoyable and informative session for everyone in our group. Zach thought it was the best present!

I took my mother to the Humble Dumpling experience and we both enjoyed it immensely gaining a great deal of knowledge and understanding of the dumpling making process. I would certainly recommend it, best to do it with someone special, so you can share the experience.

Angie did a wonderful job running the class and making sure questions were answered and everyone had a turn at trying their hand at different things. A great class learning new skills/recipes and then sitting down to enjoy our hard work. (I recommend that you have a big breakfast that morning as we ate at 1:50pm!)
