For me, cooking has always been about the sharing of food. It’s about the anticipation of sitting down together and having quality time to talk and share a meal.

I am the daughter of Chinese cooking legend Elizabeth Chong and granddaughter to pioneering and dim-sim inventor William Wing Young.  In so many ways I have always been surrounded by food.  I went on to study  Horticulture but found myself always wanting to plant veggies in peoples front gardens.  Later, I  designed Victoria’s first fully accredited  Asian Cookery course at William Angliss Institute  of TAFE where I taught for nearly 20yrs.

Today, my  business The Humble Dumpling, is a return to my roots and family traditions. I grew up surrounded by aunties, uncles, grandparents and many many cousins who gathered every Sunday to make dumplings.   I have such fond memories of those days and hope that my workshops and events will go some of the way towards sharing my wonderfully rich food culture.

16 February 2018 • Lets Make Dumplings Workshop

A great workshop with a very knowledgeable and enthusiastic teacher. Angie welcomes you into her beautiful home like an old friend and together as a group you'll learn the wonderful art of making dumplings. The workshop is well put together, the produce is fresh and Angie is a great and engaging teacher. I found Angie's instructions easy to follow and her recipes super tasty - you will be delighted with the lunch at the end. I had such a fun time and would definitely recommend to anyone who is passionate about food (not just dumplings!). Thanks Angie and Toshi. PS I'm having dumpling night at home this weekend! :)


15 February 2018 • Lets Make Dumplings Workshop

Thoroughly enjoyed my dumpling workshop with Angie and can't wait to make dumplings at home. Angie was bright, enthusiastic and full of knowledge. She got the class of ten working quickly and everyone was kept busy making fillings and wrappers. The recipes were very do-able and Angie showed us how to make up a vegetarian filling on the day with fresh vegetables on hand. So much fun - perfect gift.

Cant express how much fun my partner and i had with Angie and Toshi. They were both extremely inviting, personable and knowledgeable. After a relaxed class making an array of delicious dumplings we feel much more confident in making them from scratch for our friends and family. We will definitely be booking another workshop at The Humble Dumpling. Cheers!
