Description

For me, cooking has always been about the sharing of food. It’s about the anticipation of sitting down together and having quality time to talk and share a meal.

I am the daughter of Chinese cooking legend Elizabeth Chong and granddaughter to pioneering and dim-sim inventor William Wing Young.  In so many ways I have always been surrounded by food.  I went on to study  Horticulture but found myself always wanting to plant veggies in peoples front gardens.  Later, I  designed Victoria’s first fully accredited  Asian Cookery course at William Angliss Institute  of TAFE where I taught for nearly 20yrs.


Today, my  business The Humble Dumpling, is a return to my roots and family traditions. I grew up surrounded by aunties, uncles, grandparents and many many cousins who gathered every Sunday to make dumplings.   I have such fond memories of those days and hope that my workshops and events will go some of the way towards sharing my wonderfully rich food culture.

It was a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon. The workshop was well organised, a wonderful and enthusiastic group of people, the ingredients were of high quality, and everyone had a chance to participate in every stage of the process. I have already tried to make the dumplings at home and it tasted delicious; just need more practice with rolling out the wrappers!

WOW! What a wonderful, valuable workshop this was. It was fun meeting a diverse group of people with our common interest in good food in a relaxed and beautiful home environment.... a natural cooking experience. Angie is well organised and highly skilled at getting everyone involved in creating our delectable dumplings and accompaniments. She emphasised the value of sharing cooking with family and friends in a relaxed space, unlike the pressure-filled cook-ups seen on TV. It was interesting hearing about the history, culture and traditions of chinese food. I loved that she could pop outside to pick a few more fresh ingredients if needed. I would highly recommend this workshop to anyone who loves good food and is up for a memorable hands-on culinary experience.
