Ceramic hand building and glazing workshop
In this two part beginners hand-building and glaze workshop, you will have the chance to get your hands dirty and make something lovely in the first session and then glaze your work in the second session. You will learn different hand-building techniques like pinching and slabbing to make pieces such as cups, planters or spoons. You will have the opportunity to work with different stoneware clays, the option of using coloured underglaze to make patterns and glaze in different colours and styles.
Tea and a special homemade treat will be provided.
Your finished pieces will be fired and glazed for you, ready for collection at Think Thornbury 2-4 weeks after the final class.
Who is Aliça?
Aliça runs RARA Studio (@hellorarastudio), a Melbourne-based ceramics business.
She makes unique, hand-built objects for the home and to wear.
Aliça has a background in fine art and has a love for natural materials and objects, especially the look and feel of handmade work. She originally studied ceramics with a Japanese ceramicist but is primarily self-taught. Each piece she makes is one of a kind, with the marks of the maker celebrated, forming the texture of the work.
She sells her ceramics online, with stockists across Australia and overseas. You can also find her at markets like Big Design Market and the Melbourne Ceramics Market. Her work has been featured in Frankie, Yen and Country Style Magazine.
Aliça works locally from her studio in Thornbury, with her three studio helpers, Teti (dog), Claudia and Sybil (cats).

Think is a combined shopfront and creative workshop venue in Thornbury founded in 2017 by Melbourne artist Maggie May (from the Middle Aisle), and musician and educator Joshua Kelly.
Think formed to nurture and support a local community of artists and creators, while simultaneously empowering people to develop creative thought through their interactions with artists’ products and workshops.
The store has a strong focus on local Australian made and ethically produced products, whilst the workshop venue connects customers directly to these makers through workshops and other creative events.
