The intermediate course looks at green coffee at a deeper level, and builds on the core vocational skills needed for those people who work with green coffee on a daily basis.

What you will learn:

  • The evolution of arabica coffee varieties.
  • Coffee development through mutation and selection.
  • General species and variety identification.
  • Suitability of species and varieties to climate and environment.
  • The affect of altitude and environment on cup quality.
  • Global production statistic.s
  • The difference between small holders and farms.
  • Farming practices.
  • How coffee is processed using the washed, natural, pulped natural, and wet hulled processes.
  • Seasonality and crop cycles.
  • Grading systems.
  • Coffee defects - Physical & Sensory.
  • Futures markets and contracts.
  • How coffee is transported
  • Differences between the various 3rd party certification programs.
  • Methods of decaffeination.
  • Equipment required for green coffee grading and analysis.

Students who successfully complete the practical exam during the course must then successfully complete an online exam after the course to receive the internationally recognised SCA Green Coffee Intermediate certification.  SCA Green Coffee Intermediate certification earns credit towards the SCA Coffee Sustainable Coffee Diploma and the SCA Coffee Trade Diploma.

You are entitled to a full refund.

If you can't attend the class:

You’re welcome to send someone in your place.

  • A refund can be requested 14 days before class starts. An admin fee of AU$20.00 applies.
  • A transfer can be requested anytime before the class starts. Free of charge.
