Ceramics Painting Workshop

A special event workshop focused on painting

Description

Ceramics Painting Workshop - Brushstrokes & Banding Techniques

This is a special limited workshop focused on decorating a plate using multiple painting techniques including brush strokes, banding, shading, sectioning, and line work. Our skilled teacher will be guiding participants through one of our designs, or you can bring your own!

We provide a bisque plate to decorate, with underglazes, equipment, clear glaze, and firing all included.
PLUS every participant will receive a set of 5 high quality brushes to use and keep, valued at $60!

Suitable for both beginner potters exploring methods of decoration and experienced ceramicists who are looking to upgrade their skills.

This all-inclusive workshop runs in two separate sessions on Sunday 7th and Monday 8th July 2024.

The SaJo studio is a warm and social environment, the perfect context for learning, having fun, and relaxing all in one. We will also serve a light lunch, alongside your choice of bubbly, wine, soft drink, tea or coffee. No better way to keep the creative energy going than making a day of it with our beautiful clay community!

What you will learn:

  • Understanding underglazes and brush application
  • Multiple painting techniques for decoration
  • How to use a banding wheel for painted designs

What to bring:

Bisque plates, underglazes, equipment, and brushes are provided. Although the materials usually wash out easily, we recommend wearing clothes you don’t mind getting messy in! Shoes are also required at all times in the studio for safety reasons.

After class:

Our staff will professionally clear glaze and fire your creations, and contact you when they are ready to collect. This is approximately 4-6 weeks after class. Once fired, your creations are food, dishwasher, oven & microwave safe! All work is only kept for a period of 3 months, after which time, any uncollected items will be disposed of, so please ensure to collect your items as soon as you receive the notification, or contact the studio to arrange postage.

Parking Info

Please drive right past the house to the long white shed.  Park in front of the shed.

This is a special event with limited tickets, and is likely to book out, so book early to avoid disappointment!

We have set up our studio to bring together pottery and ceramics in a combined space and to be an affordable, fun place where anyone can come and enjoy creating with clay. Our studio is a place where there are very little rules except to respect your fellow artists, their work and the studio, to relax and learn that there is no end to the possibilities when working with clay..........

At SaJo Ceramics you can...

Join a casual pottery class or social pottery & ceramics session; take a workshop to have a go at the pottery wheel, take one of our 6 week courses to learn the basics of throwing, or just use our  Melbourne studio facilities on a casual basis. Discover beautiful stoneware handmade tiles for a unique splashback or outdoor wall feature or make your own! Explore a huge catalogue of ceramic pieces to paint in both acrylic paints and fired finishes, made to order from vintage and modern bisque designs. Buy hand made tile blanks for your school or community project, ready for you to paint, carve or decorate, or just drop in and chat with fellow artists while enjoying a cuppa.

I really enjoyed this class. I am new to pottery and have seen other decorating techniques but not painting pictures on it. The class showed you how to divide the plate into sections for your pattern / design, so that you can make it symmetrical and even. You also learn how to do banding which will require a lot more practice for me! It broke down the process and gave tips to help with future projects.
