Setting our cameras to automatic doesn’t always do a photo justice – sometimes it just doesn’t capture the ‘feel’ of the moment. However, there are many ways to improve your photos by simply adjusting your camera settings. In this workshop we’ll show you how to use the manual controls like ISO, aperture and shutter speed to get the shots you’re after. We provide each participant with a beautiful vintage camera for the duration of the workshop, but feel free to bring your own of course.
After an introduction to how your camera works, we’ll explore the area just outside our door. The Fox Darkroom is located in the Young Husband Kensington wool store, built in 1901, and features beautiful old bluestone alleyways, arched iron windows, local artists, studios, film props and its fair share of age-old grit and graffiti.
When we’re done shooting, we’ll come back to the studio and show you how develop your own film. It’s very satisfying to walk away with your first hand-developed roll. As with all aspects of black and white photography, we will show you the tips and tricks for maximising ‘the feel’ you want to create with every new roll you shoot.
