Description

Over the 8 hours of this workshop, students will make an A-line skirt - now with POCKETS! Our pattern features princess seams, which enables you to feature a fabric in the centre panel if desired and pockets have been added to this design in the side front panels. The skirt is finished with a waistband and closes with an invisible zip, plus one button on the waistband.  You will use the overlockers and a one-step buttonhole foot while making this skirt.

Our pattern waist measurement covers from a 65cm to 95cm. If you wish to make a skirt outside this range, please email us and we will grade a pattern ready for your workshop.  The skirt photographed above is a wool tartan, great for Winter - but this versatile skirt can be made from almost any woven fabric that has a bit of drape.

  • We are located at Level 1, 329 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy.  It's a red door on the street between an Afghan restaurant and the N2 Gelato Bar.  If you are putting this into your GPS for directions - make sure that the address is NOT coming up as North Fitzroy. That's a couple of kilometres down the road. Totally not where you need to go.
  • Parking near Thread Den: There is very little free parking. Brunswick Street is all ticketed and restricted to as little as 2hours during some hours of the day.  Surrounding streets can also be difficult.  However, you can park for longer in the paid Coles Car Park.  When you look it up online it is listed as Johnston Street, however access is via Argyle Street.  If you park on level 1 or 2 and spend over $30 at Coles, you can get your parking for up to 4 hours reimbursed in Coles.
  • Catch the tram. Public Transport is the ideal way to get to Thread Den - jump on the number 11 Tram and get off near the Johnston Street intersection.

Cancellation & Refund Policy

On occasion, Thread Den is forced to cancel a class due to low booking numbers. We really don't like to do this as we love to teach people to sew, knit and crochet, but if we don't cover our costs we can't run the class. In instances where Thread Den must cancel a class, enrolled participants will be notified 24 hours or more prior to the scheduled class and will receive a credit for a replacement class or a refund as required.

There are no refunds due to change of mind.

I attended this class and made a beautiful wool blend skirt. I was disappointed that we ran out of time to cover all of the stated learning outcomes - the girls in the class all requested skirt pockets and everyone was working on this, we did end up running out of time to cover hemming and button holes except for a quick 1 min demo. The class overall could have benefitted from a bit more structure. Otherwise it was an enjoyable class and I did end up with a lovely, well fitting skirt.

Thank you for your thoughtful review. We are going to extend this course length from 6 to 7 hours.

There will be a design tweak with pockets added that fit into the side front panel created by the Princess seam.

Okay class - not for a beginner. I would say a semi experienced sewer would enjoy the class and not be overwhelmed. The instructions in the manual aren't great and you end up relying on the teacher a heap for clarification. Ended up with a almost completed skirt and no paper pattern. Not the best Thread Den class I have done. Teacher allowed us to add a pocket to the skirt at my request but I think it just wasn't possible in the time frame.
