Sustainable Fabric Upcycling & Sewing Workshop

Description
New workshop just launched!!!
Reduce waste and extend the life of your clothes.
Bring your not-quite-right clothing, old tablecloths, or fabrics to transform them into something wild, fitting and functional!
ALL WELCOME: This 2.5 hour x 6 week sustainability workshop is suitable for beginners or those with experience.
Beginners will receive guidance on how to plan a project, unpick, stitch, and operate a sewing machine.
We will discuss identifying fibres and discerning op-shop quality and colours.
We also cater to seasoned crafters looking to join a fun and creative community.
Places limited to 8. Tools, threads, tape, machines and other materials provided.
What to bring:
Students are encouraged to bring their ripped clothing, favourite op-shop buys and all other materials they would like to use on their projects.
Your teacher will also have plenty of material on hand to help you create something new to you!
About Little Woods:
Little Woods Studio is the open-to-the-public pottery and art studio of Jesuit Social Services. We are a welcoming and inclusive creative hub whose aim is to nurture both the flourishing of individual creative passions and the growth of a connected community.
What you will learn
- How to use a sewing machine, to make better Opshop choices, to unpick without damage, to shape garments to fit you more comfortably, extending the life of garments and reduce waste, fibres and fabric construction and how to make a simple bag.
What you will get
- Students will take home a new item made from recycled materials!
What to bring
- Some materials will be provided, however students are to bring their potential treasures to upcycle.
What to wear
Please wear comfortable clothing
Appropriate for
Beginner and experienced sewers are welcome. Students under 15 years of age to be accompanied by an adult.
About us
Located near Gertrude Street, Little Woods Studios is a small, not-for-profit art studio supporting the work of Jesuit Social Services.
Little Woods Studio is the open-to-the-public offshoot of the Artful Dodgers Studios, a not-for-profit art and music space providing holistic support for young people living under challenging circumstances. All profits from workshops held at Little Woods go towards helping fund Artful Dodgers Studios.

Your Teacher
Liz Reece is a creative, dressmaker and up-cycler from way back! She will bring lots of her examples for inspiration.

If the organiser cancels the class:
You are entitled to a full refund.
If you can't attend the class:
You’re welcome to send someone in your place.

- A refund can be requested 14 days before class starts. An admin fee of AU$10.00 applies.
- A transfer can be requested 14 days before the class starts. An admin fee of AU$10.00 applies.
No changes will be allowed after these times.

Terms & Conditions
We require 2 week notice in writing (email) prior to the class commencing for a full refund or transfer. In the event that a class is cancelled, students will be notified via text message or email and will be given a full refund. No shows will not be refunded. As we are a not for profit, any transfer of classes will incur a $10 fee to cover admin staff time.
