Absolute Beginners to Vegetable Growing: Your Patch from Scratch

About This Class

Class Schedule

  • This series of workshops will take place over 3 sessions. It is expected (but not essential) that you would attend all of them as they are build on the many aspects of growing vegetables.

What You Will Learn

  • Plant basics: what they need to grow well
  • Setting up a vegie patch in different situations: pots and plots, including No-Dig Layer beds
  • Sun, siting, soil issues

What You Get

  • Refreshments served
  • Notes to take home and reinforce session content
  • Personalised information on the best way for you to set up a patch in your garden
  • Confidence to know that you can grow vegetables in almost any situation with the practical, hands-on knowledge from this series of workshops

If you have wanted to grow vegetables but are not sure where to start, this is the short course for you. Get your vegie patch up and growing in time for the very productive warmer season. All of the sessions are complementary but you may not be able to attend all, or feel you don't need the information for them all so they are booked separately.

Session 1:

Your Patch from Scratch OR Setting up a Vegetable garden. We cover the basics for success from the start: soil improvement, siting your vegie patch, sunshine needed, plant nutrition needs. Starting No-Dig gardens vs traditional vegie patches are demonstrated. Planting in pots for difficult situations and good soil media.

Hands-on learning is what My Green Garden is all about and so many aspects of each session will be conducted on site in the garden (weather permitting). You will receive detailed handouts at each session and are invited to do a little bit of "work" prior to some sessions for your own benefit in planning your patch.

It is recommended that you do attend all three sessions of the series but this is optional. The class size is kept small (max 8) so you get personalised attention, but without a minimum of 4-6 participants per class per session, particular sessions might be cancelled. You will be refunded for any cancelled sessions.

Session times: all workshops commence at 10am and finish at approx. 12.30pm.

BOOKING CONDITIONS Bookings are considered final once payment is made. If you need to cancel, at least 7 days notice is required in order for a refund, less a 10% administration fee. For any cancellations made within 7 days of the workshop series start date, you will forfeit your fee unless the place can be filled from a waiting list (you willl be refunded less the 10% admin fee). If you would like to transfer to another workshop, it must be done with at least 7 days notice before the start of the workshop.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER Maria has been teaching people for 10 years now about how to grow vegetables and do it all in an environmentally sustainable way. She has an extensive garden and has grown many different vegetables, all of which has added to her experience. Even though Maria has grown vegetables for a very long time, she still gets a thrill everytime seeds germinate and she harvests goodies from her patch!
