Art of Jewellery Making - Ring in a Day

Sterling Silver Ring - Beginners

Learn how to make your own ring – you will be guided through sizing techniques, metal selection and all the traditional metalsmithing techniques required to form a ring.  Understand how sterling silver reacts to heat, hammering, texturing, soldering.

You will be given the option of making a single band sterling silver ring or using sterling silver wire, you can make a set of 3 stacking rings.  After forming you will have the choice to further enhance your ring by adding textures and patinas that create another dimension to your design.

I encourage you to design your own piece – you don’t have to make what everyone else is making and you don’t need to be a skilled artist to do this – I will teach you how to get the end result that you have in mind.

This is a basic ring making class - please don't get too far ahead of me thinking gem setting.  That can come later.

Changing the shape of precious metals is a fascinating process!  Forming a ring out of a flat sheet of sterling silver – it’s amazing and fun!

NB: We play with fire in these workshops – minimum age = 18yrs.

My jewellery making practice uses traditional silversmithing techniques which I teach in my studio/workshop at Boom Makers in Newtown, Geelong.  Jewellery as art is my passion and I love sharing it.

Over the last couple of years, I have been travelling throughout rural Victoria and NSW running workshops which have been full of fun, companionship and fabulous jewellery results.

My workshops cover various techniques including saw-piercing, forming, texturing, soldering filing & polishing techniques.  Everyone leaves with a beautiful new piece of sterling silver jewellery - a pendant, pair of earrings or a ring, depending on the workshop you take.  I also run Make your Own Wedding Ring workshops for couples who want to have super special rings to exchange on their big day!

My workshop is made up of professional jewellers benches and equipment - limited to 8 people so you all get my undivided attention.

I also organise other jewellery making professionals to run workshops in their specialised field of jewellery making - these workshops are occasional and get booked very quickly, so keep an eye out for announcements.

Come along with your own design, or work on a design provided.  Make a day or a weekend of it.  By yourself or with friends.  My workshops are fun and relaxed and most importantly informative and inspiring.  I look forward to teaching you how to make your own special piece of jewellery that you will be so proud to wear yourself or make as a gift for someone special.
