ABOUT THE COURSE

This intermediate-level Introduction to Jewellery Making with Gold Fill workshop is designed to introduce you to the properties, uses, and limitations of gold fill material. Led by the talented Michelle Hales, you’ll gain valuable insights into the manufacturing process, learn practical techniques for working with gold fill, and discover how to incorporate it into your jewellery designs.

You will learn how this metal is manufactured, how to protect it in your making process, and how to solder and finish your pieces. Material benefits include being very easy to work with when annealed and becoming very hard when work hardened. It is an excellent value gold alternative that can be soldered and finished, and it is tarnish-resistant, hypoallergenic, durable, and beautiful!

Students will make quick projects, such as a ring or pair of earrings, before we move into more complex designs. You will learn tricks for annealing, soldering, work hardening, and finishing, as well as where to source materials and consumables.

The Introduction to Jewellery Making with Gold Fill workshop will be hands-on. You will use torches and fabrication hand tools.
