Sew an A Line Skirt with Pockets

Book Now (http://weteachme.com/l/1JX6coEr)

Description

In this A Line Skirt Workshop, you will make a gorgeous skirt with POCKETS over 8 hours.

With six pattern pieces, this is a great choice if you have made a really simple garment like our Simple Shift Dress or PJ pants, or are a keen beginner excited to keep working and learning at the pace of our Sewing Basics Course.

This skirt features: princess seams, pockets, a waist band, an invisible zip and button/buttonhole on the waistband. While making the skirt you will learn to use overlockers to finish fabric edges and use interfacing to stabilise and strengthen the waistband. You'll use an invisible zip foot and one step buttonhole foot.

Options: If you are a confident experienced sewing enthusiast and want a challenge, you could cut the skirt's centre front panel from a contrasting fabric that is harder to work with, like satin or brocade.

Workshop skill levels explained – click here.

What to wear it with: Pair this skirt with the 3/4 sleeve top made in the Sewing with Stretchy Knits Course - click to view.

I loved this skirt class. Love the shape of the pattern and love the pockets at the front! Had Jen for the first class and Danielle for the second. Great class for beginners and beyond. Need to at least know the basics (do the basics course first). Good for practicing your insert invisible zips skills :)

I attended this class and made a beautiful wool blend skirt. I was disappointed that we ran out of time to cover all of the stated learning outcomes - the girls in the class all requested skirt pockets and everyone was working on this, we did end up running out of time to cover hemming and button holes except for a quick 1 min demo. The class overall could have benefitted from a bit more structure. Otherwise it was an enjoyable class and I did end up with a lovely, well fitting skirt.

Thank you for your thoughtful review. We are going to extend this course length from 6 to 7 hours.

There will be a design tweak with pockets added that fit into the side front panel created by the Princess seam.

Okay class - not for a beginner. I would say a semi experienced sewer would enjoy the class and not be overwhelmed. The instructions in the manual aren't great and you end up relying on the teacher a heap for clarification. Ended up with a almost completed skirt and no paper pattern. Not the best Thread Den class I have done. Teacher allowed us to add a pocket to the skirt at my request but I think it just wasn't possible in the time frame.
