Introduction to Leatherwork: Belt or Collar Making



Description

In this class you will learn basic leather working skills while creating your very own hand made leather belt or collar under the guidance of leather crafter Chris Cawley from Ironbark Armoury.


The class will cover basic leather work tools and techniques while teaching you how to make a leather belt or collar from a strip of veg tan leather.  You will get  to punch holes, bevel edges, attach a buckle using rivets and colour your leather with dye and paint.


This class is great for beginners and people completely new to leather working wanting to learn new skills in a fun interactive workshop.


Workshop presenter: Chris Cawley - Iron Bark Armoury

Chris is a Brisbane based, self taught leather crafter with 2 years experience within the LARP community making armour and leather accessories. Recently starting his own business Ironbark Armoury, making original leatherwork pieces and artistic designs.

Class Schedule

What you will learn
  • How to use a variety of leather working tools
  • Basic Leather working techniques
  • How to cut, rivet, paint and dye leather
What you will get
  • All materials needed to make your own leather belt or collar
  • Participants get to take home their own hand-made belt or collar

What to bring
  • All tools and materials are provided
  • Size of the pets neck, or if you are making a belt for someone other than yourself the size of the person waist.
What to wear

You must wear enclosed footwear.

Appropriate for

Teens and adults. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

Cancellation Policy: As we purchase materials based on the number of attendees for each workshop we are unable to refund tickets. We do welcome you to pass your ticket to a friend to come in your place. Please email us if you do wish to change the name on the ticket.  In the event that the class is cancelled by Hobbymedo, fees will be refunded or alternative dates offered.

If you wish to use public transport to get to this event, please visit Translink.  Off-street customer car parking is available at 75 Redland Bay Road - just follow the driveway around the back of the Baby Bunting store.

I learnt the basics of belt-making as well as some general information about leatherwork. I now have a perfectly wearable belt even if some of the dye ended up in the wrong place!
