Description

Learn to carve ring in wax with a facetted gem using wax files and burrs in one-day. You design your own ring and at the conclusion of the day the stone is removed and the ring is sent for external casting in silver.

The second class you will learn how to clean and polish the ring and set the gem.

The classes are two weeks apart to allow for the return of the cast silver rings.

All materials including wax, files, burrs and gems are included in the course cost. However, there will a separate casting cost which is estimated at $25.00  to $30.00 per ring and will be payable on the second day of the course. 

Course 1 duration – Day One, Saturday 7 October, 10am to 4pm and Day Two, Sunday 29 October, 10am to 2 pm.

Course 2 duration -Day One Saturday 14 October, 10am to 4 pm and Day Two, Sunday 12 November,10am to 2pm

The studio has a dress code for your own safety, closed in shoes, jeans/long pants, tee shirt and hair tired back if long.

We are a contemporary jewellery studio and gallery run by local jeweller Philip Noakes, who has over forty years experience in making and teaching in the industry. Philip has exhibited extensively around Australia, and makes his own work and private commisions, as well as teaching from the studio.

Contemporary Metal offers jewellers and students access to a fully equipped studio including: rolling mill, soldering and melting torches, pendant drills, vacuum casting, vulcaniser and wax injector, hydraulic press, lathe, tumbler, polisher, ultrasonic, large dapping sets and lapidary equipment.

We have benches available for hire on a casual, weekly or ongoing basis.
