SCA Coffee Roasting - Professional (3 day) $2,400
Description
This coffee roasting course will give you a deeper understanding of heat and heat transfer, and a more specific understanding of the physical, chemical and sensorial aspects of green and roasted coffee. It will also teach you about more subtle aspects of profile roasting and how the different parts of the roasting cycle affect physical and chemical aspects of the coffee. It will give you the knowledge and skills needed as a manager to plan and execute quality control, create a product range to meet different customer segment preferences, calculate production costs, plan and execute lean production.
Note: SCA Roasting Intermediate certification is a mandatory prerequisite for this course. Certification for Sensory Skills Foundation, Green Coffee Foundation, and Green Coffee Intermediate are recommended prerequisites.

- Bean genetics and terroir
- Pre versus post blending
- Measurement equipment and profile logging software
- Roastery management (e.g. Purchase planning, lean production, batch size requirements related to yearly turnover calculations)

Students who successfully complete the practical exam during the course must then successfully complete an online exam after the course to receive the internationally recognised SCA Roasting Professional certification. SCA Roasting Professional certification earns credit towards the SCA Roastery Diploma.

Pre-requisites: Holding the SCA Roasting Intermediate certification for a minimum of 3 months is MANDATORY.
