This course provides an introduction to painting with acrylics, and explores a range of painting styles, methods and techniques.
Fun exercises will encourage students to develop their skills through colour mixing, paint application, composition, and observational painting, and will create a few finished artworks that are the culmination of these techniques.
By the end of the course students will have been encouraged to develop their own individual personal approach to painting, and be equipped with the skills to continue their painting exploration.
This class runs over 5 weeks with a one weeks break in the middle (no class on Thursday the 14th of May).
This course is taught by artist Melanie Caple.
Melanie graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Art (Painting) from RMIT in 2012, and holds a Masters of Arts Management.
As an artist, curator and arts manager Melanie has worked in multiple capacities within the arts industry. She has exhibited in various group exhibitions and has staged solo exhibitions around Melbourne and in Gippsland including a major solo exhibition in 2015 at the Latrobe Regional Gallery as the recipient of the annual Dick Bishop Memorial Award. Most recently she was the Winner of the People’s Choice Award in the Roi Art Prize, and a finalist in the Collins Place Art Prize. Melanie divides her time between Melbourne’s north and her large painting studio in South Gippsland. Gloworm Studios is a unique art school located in the heart of Fairfield. Led by professional illustrator Marianna Marx, our programs specialise in painting, drawing and illustration. Gloworm Studios is a warm and nurturing environment where artists both young and young at heart are invited to immerse themselves in their creativity and imagination.
Marianna Marx has taught art alongside her illustration career for the past 10 years. Her experiences include working in the education department at the De Young Museum in San Francisco, an artist residency at Caulfield Grammar School, one on one art tutoring for children and adults, after school art classes, corporate workshops and working alongside artists with intellectual disabilities. Marianna has taken insight from each of these experiences to create an art school of her own where she can share her love for creative expression with others in her local community.
