Study the Techniques of the Old Masters

Over 20 people have attended this class

Study the techniques of the old masters under the tutorship of Florence Academy trained artist, Troy Argyros. Under his friendly guidance you will learn how to organise your palette, mix flesh tones, and build a painting from start to finish using the traditional academic method of the 19th century, which has a strong emphasis on drawing.

In this workshop students will be given an old master painting to work from, and after a demonstration by Troy they will spend the first part of the day blocking in with willow charcoal and then raw umber, focusing on attaining accuracy in proportion. After lunch Troy will demonstrate mixing the flesh palette, and students will begin painting directly over their raw umber underpainting. Troy will provide individual tuition to each student based on their particular needs.

The workshop will be split into two sessions, with a 45-minute lunch break in the middle, morning and afternoon refreshments are provided. There are many good cafes close-by to find some lunch.

I felt as though Troy (the tutor) was able to teach in a way that was both engaging and encouraging. Troy's passion is evident and a joy to see his skill on display. I felt as though I learned a lot and it was time well spent. I left this class with a new vigor for painting.
Wonderful session with Troy learning the basics and the finesse of portraiture. So much packed into one day and so much to take away.
I attended a master copy painting workshop with Troy Argyros. What a fantastic day! Not only was the tuition second to none, but Adriane at Fitzroy Painting was so accommodating, making sure we were all positioned comfortably and even brought us refreshments throughout the day. A fantastic creative experience, I can’t recommend Fitzroy Painting enough!
