The place to start! Build strength & flexibility plus learn a range of skills, including acro-balance, aerials, hula-hoops, juggling, stilts & more. 

This is an All Levels class, which means it’s suitable for all fitness and skill levels.

Concession is for those who fit into one of the following: Health Care Card, Student, Pensioner, Unemployed.

What you will learn
  • Learn basic circus techniques and movements
  • Performance skills, acro balance, hula hooping, juggling, basic aerials and general coordination skills. The fundamentals of how to approach circus in a healthy fun way.
What you will get
  • Vulcana Women’s Circus works with the circus traditions of inclusiveness, strength, excitement, and daring to transform and empower individuals and communities!

What to bring
  • A healthy snack, water bottle and your enthusiasm!
  • Make sure not to start on an empty stomach, a light meal around an hour before class is generally ideal.
What to wear

Comfortable clothing that won't restrict your movement. Make sure you're ready to go upside down. Ideally pants/ tights longer than knee length. No shoes or socks worn in class.

This class is open to individuals who identify as women, trans, and non-binary genders.

Here at Vulcana Women’s Circus, we run workshops for adults and kids and teens, and we develop community projects with all kinds of different communities, the focus always being on creativity and empowerment through circus. You can book us for gigs, workshops or hire our space at the Stores Studio, Brisbane Powerhouse.

Vulcana’s circus workshop and performance projects engage a broad range of community participants and work in partnership with arts and community organisations to create opportunities for cultural expression and community development. In a safe, playful space we encourage participants to be themselves with joy and push the boundaries of what is achievable as one or in a group.

11 July 2019 • CIRCUS ESSENTIALS Mondays @ 6:30pm

Term 2 of Circus Essentials was again fantastic, but in different ways. With one trainer - instead of three like in Term 1 - we had less overall experiences but deeper training on the things we did practice over the 9 weeks. The trainers are always wonderful and encouraging - I particularly valued Abbie’s attention to conditioning. The group of women were beautifully supportive and I always felt transformed by the class. I especially loved the acro work we did altogether, and continuing to practice my handstands.


30 June 2019 • CIRCUS ESSENTIALS Mondays @ 6:30pm

This is my second term doing Circus Essentials. Interestingly the two terms were very different even though they are not sequential courses. The first term was structured and had a consistent teacher. We covered a lot of different skills. The second term was more fluid with a different teacher almost each class. However we focussed only on a handful of activities which meant we could really progress our skill level. I am not sure which approach I prefer but regardless I love this class and will sign up again.

Thank You Vulcana!! I LOVED everything!! We tasted such a broad array of circus nourishment in SUCH a supportive and positive environment. I love how my creativity was sparked and the insights I gained in my mind-body coordination are continuing to benefit me. ThAnK YoU!! I thoroughly look forward to next term’s Circus Essentials!!
