Let's Sweat!

Samba is one of the most popular music and dance styles to emerge from Brazil. Samba music, with its distinctive rhythm encourages spontaneous dancing, such as in the streets during a Carnival celebration. ‘Samba no pé (which literally means on the foot) is the most popular and traditional form of Samba danced in Brazil and is taught by Louise in class. This high energy dance is done solo and is a fantastic cardio workout. The style originated in the suburbs and favelas of Rio de Janeiro and it’s the main type of Samba that can be seen on the Brazilian Carnival parades. Our samba classes are designed to be fun and energetic that will enable you to learn the basic samba technique, steps and choreography whilst working up a sweat and having fun.

What to wear
Stretchy dance gear or comfortable exercise wear. Basically you need something that won’t limit your range of motion. For shoes it is best to wear sneakers or dance shoes without heels. You can also dance barefeet even though you will lack a bit of support. Bring extra clothes for after the class and bring some water because you will sweat

Wednesday's class with Louise was so much fun!! Louise goes out of her way to make everybody in the class (no matter what dance level they're at) feel included. She tailors the class to the students attending that night and continues to go over things until everybody's answers are questioned. She creates a very light hearted, joking environment. Her music choice is awesome and really sets the sexy, sassy and cheeky vibe of the Brazilian Samba!

Wow, what an amazing first class back in the studio... in real life! This is the second class I've taken of Louise's, with the first being online during lockdown, and can I just say what an amazing samba teacher she is! Not only does Louise explain what the footwork is called in samba terminology, she also checks in with the students to see if they're good with the move and can move on or practise the step again until everyone is confident. What I loved about the first in-studio class was that Louise eased us back into the studio again and like a duck to water - voila! We'd done a mini-choreo by the end of the class. So much fun! And well done to Dance Central for the social distancing floor stickers and sanitiser by the front door - the health of everyone comes first during these early break-free from Covid stages.
