Description

Designed to develop mastery of coffee brewing.  This coffee brewing course tests the ability to navigate the Coffee Brewing Control Chart, and use the control measures available with a variety of brewing methods and devices.

Note:  SCA Brewing Intermediate certification is a prerequisite for this course, and SCA Sensory Skills Foundation certification is recommended.

You will learn:

  • How to optimise brew plans for coffee of different roast levels.
  • How to optimise brew plans when brewing coffee with different filter media.
  • How to use and chart by-pass.
  • How particle size distribution impacts taste and extraction.
  • How to brew and chart different extraction yields at the same strength.
  • How to brew and chart different strengths with the same extraction yield.
  • How brewing temperature affects flavour nuances.
  • How wetting and turbulence variables affect extraction and taste.
  • How to analyse water chemistry and determine which filtration system is most suitable.
  • How different water chemistry affects extraction, taste, and flavour.
  • How to customise your water chemistry to suit the coffee you are brewing. 

Students who successfully complete the practical exam during the course must then successfully complete an online exam after the course to receive the internationally recognised SCA Brewing Professional certification.  SCA Brewing Professional certification earns credit towards the SCA Cafe Diploma.

If the organiser cancels the class:

You are entitled to a full refund.

If you can't attend the class:

You’re welcome to send someone in your place.

  • A refund can be requested 14 days before class starts. An admin fee of AU$20.00 applies.
  • A transfer can be requested anytime before the class starts. Free of charge.

No changes will be allowed after these times.
