Description

This class is for students who would like to understand the basic principles of dyeing protein fibres i.e. Wool, Alpaca and Silk as well as yarns. The course sets out the specific environments needed to achieve a well-dyed result. We will not be going into colour theory although we will discuss some beneficial rules to keep in mind so you don't end up with muddy colours. This course is mainly a demonstration style class.

We will cover:

Equipment needed - simple equipment found easily and kept separate for dyeing.

Dyeing washed fleece - single colours and also cram pot dyeing

Dyeing yarns - how to obtain a realistic even dye coverage for hand-spun yarns. Also how to achieve simple dyed effects using different colours

Colours to the rescue - various methods for rescuing a less than pleasing result as well as overdyeing.
