Join us for a wonderfully inspiring Saturday in our beautiful and bright Printmaking Studio in Collingwood.
Create a stunning Dry Point Etching or Relief Linocut to produce your very own unique masterpiece in our relaxed and creative atmosphere small size workshops.
Class sizes are kept to a maximum of four students so you can enjoy the lovely studio surroundings and get the most from your instructor and experience.
In this class you can choose between either Intaglio Drypoint or Linocut Relief in this 4 hour workshop.
Linocut offers a high contrast result using linocut tools to carve your design - where the lino remains (raised) the black ink will roll onto with the brayer, where it has been carved out the paper will show through. You will also produce one print on a Japanese paper background (choice of colours).
Intaglio Drypoint offers a more drawn/sketched like quality. Use a pointed etching tool to scratch your design into your acetate plate, you can also experiment with leaving some background ink to create a mezzotinted result. I can show you how to achieve this effect.
You do not have to decide on which technique until you arrive and I explain both processes. You also do not need drawing skills for this class as you will transfer your design using carbon paper to your lino or trace through the clear acetate with an etching tool for drypoint to create your masterpiece.
To allow more time to carve or etch it is highly advised to have an image or idea in mind before your workshop. We are happy for you to email us your ideas beforehand so we can offer advice and have your image (using Photoshop) adjusted for contrast, reversed for printing and ready for you to begin creating when you arrive. email@example.com
The drypoint plate or lino relief tile is 13cm x 19cm (please keep this in mind when thinking about your design) and will be printed on professional Italian Rospina paper to produce a beautiful one-colour A4 design. You will produce 3 A4 size prints. All prints are allowed a short setting time and then carefully packaged so you can take your prints home at the end of your class.
Tea, water and coffee and biscuits will be provided as you work, but please feel free to also bring your lunch or snacks.
Our workshops are suitable for complete beginners to printmaking as well as those with experience. Our workshops are recommend for students aged 12 and over. Please contact us if your child is under 12 and would still like to attend our workshops.
Our environmental commitment. Jax studio is committed to eco friendly printmaking processes. We use ‘Carbonnel Aqua Wash’ ink which has the same quality, pigment concentration, light fastness and permanence as traditional solvent based inks and it can be hand coloured when completely dry. The difference with this ink is that it is non-toxic and washes up safely with soap and water so it’s ideal for those who are sensitive to the traditional solvents used in printmaking and is much less harmful to the environment.
