Join us for a wonderfully inspiring day in our beautiful and bright Printmaking Studio in Collingwood. In this class you will learn how to carve and print a Linocut Relief in this 6 hour workshop 10:00am -4:00pm* (includes 30 minute break).

Create a stunning black and white Relief Linocut masterpiece in our small size workshops. Classes are kept to a maximum of four students so you can enjoy the lovely studio surroundings and get the most from your instructor and experience.

Linocut offers a high contrast result using linocut tools to carve your design - where the lino remains (raised) the black ink will roll onto with the brayer, where it has been carved out the paper will show through. You will also produce one print on a Japanese or Nepalese paper background (choice of colours).

You  do not require drawing skills for this class as you will transfer your design using carbon paper to your lino block to create your design.

To allow more time to carve please bring your image ready to go before your workshop. Please note your image will need to be reversed and no larger than 13cm x 19cm. If you are unsure about your image suitability I am happy for you to email me your image a few days beforehand so I can offer advice and have your image (using Photoshop) adjusted for contrast, reversed (printing occurs in mirror image) and ready for you to begin creating when you arrive.

The lino relief tile is 13cm x 19cm (please keep this in mind when thinking about your design) and will be printed with black Charbonnel ink on A4 size professional Italian Fabriano Rosaspina paper to produce your print.  You should be able to produce 4 prints of your carving during the class time. All prints are carefully packaged so you can take them home at the end of your class.

Tea, water and coffee and biscuits will be provided as you work, but please feel free to also bring your lunch or snacks. There are supermarkets and cafes nearby if you prefer to grab food on the day.

Our workshops are suitable for complete beginners to printmaking as well as those with experience. Our workshops are recommend for students aged 12 and over. Please contact us to discuss if your child is under 12 and would still like to attend our workshops.

Our environmental commitment. Jax studio is committed to eco friendly printmaking processes. We use ‘Charbonnel Aqua Wash’ ink which has the same quality, pigment concentration, light fastness and permanence as traditional solvent based inks and it can be hand coloured when completely dry. The difference with this ink is that it is non-toxic and washes up safely with soap and water so it’s ideal for those who are sensitive to the traditional solvents used in printmaking and is much less harmful to the environment.
