Description

Monday Night Studio: Tutor: Lucy Roleff

Expanded Practice: Level Intermediate to advanced

Our ongoing classes provide a supportive and friendly studio environment for students to build confidence and develop their practice with guidance and feedback from their tutor.

This class is aimed at students wanting to explore their own aesthetic interests and direction, whilst concentrating on developing painting skills, techniques and studio practice to make the best work they can with close tutorial support.

Students are encouraged to bring in their own preparatory material to work from, or to set up individual studio-based enquiries from our large supply of props and reference material. Traditional and contemporary painting techniques are discussed, and optional exercises are available to assist in furthering skills and expanding students practice. Tutors work with each student individually throughout the class.

Painting students must have already completed our beginners course or already have previous oil painting experience. It is also suitable for artists working in isolation who seek the company of other artists for support and encouragement.

Students may join at any time and class-passes are available online. Materials storage space is available at the studio for ongoing students. Students are expected to bring their own materials, or may hire or purchase a kit at the studio. A full materials list can be found here. This class is not suitable for beginners.

About your tutor:

Lucy Roleff is a Melbourne-based artist with a Masters of Teaching (Visual Arts) from the University of Melbourne. Her paintings are about the act of looking – the internal processes that begin when we look at something we aspire to, or in which we recognise ourselves. Lucy’s work is held in a number of private collections across Australia and overseas, and she has been a finalist for multiple art prizes

Monday night oil painting class was an amazing experience and I intend on now attending this class regularly. Lucy created an atmosphere that was warm and welcoming. The other participants were really encouraging and it was lovely to have a wine and cheese and a chat and also be inspired by so many incredible artists from all walks of life. The building itself was beautiful with high ceilings and great atmosphere for painting. Absolutely loved it!

Monday this week was my first time back to oil painting in 20 years. I was quite nervous but Lucy was great and made me feel welcome and talked me through the basics again and was so positive. I loved it and had a lot of fun. I'm booked in for the next 9 weeks.
