April 22: One-day workshop 10am - 4pm

May 4 - June 8: Thursdays 10am - 1pm

This workshop or six-week course will provide you with the skills to explore urban drawing carrying only a small notebook and a few pens.  Perfect for travelling, or just exploring Melbourne!

Choose between the one-day workshop, or our longer six-week course which goes into more depth, techniques, and one-on-one guidance and feedback.

Beginning in the studio, we will dive into the basics of pen and ink use, exploring the range of possibilities available, and how other artists have mastered it to great effect.

Through a series of studies, we will look at composition, perspective and rendering techniques, working towards creating a final pen and ink urban landscape drawing.

During the course we’ll venture out and draw from life,  capturing your impression of a building that’s in the streets near the studio.

Mark was a great instructor with insight applicable to every variety of skill-level. Those new to urban landscape drawing were well supported with the basics of rendering, proportion, perspective, materials, etc. Students familiar with this drawing style were encouraged to move out of their comfort zones and consider aspects such as composition and style. It was also incredibly rewarding to experience Melbourne outdoors by paying close attention to its urban environments.

I enjoyed this class. I liked how our teacher, Mark, would give individual assistance. I also thought it was very beneficial to see other's drawings and how they solve their drawing issues. I've learnt a lot.
