Unlock some of the basics of oil painting in this fun and accessible oil painting class. In this weekly drop in workshop Jason will take you through the process of building up an oil painting from scratch and personally work you through the process so that at the end of the night you have a painting to take home with you.
At the start of each class you will be presented with a canvass board with the initial sketch already done so we can get straight into the painting (if you want to learn about the drawing stages there will be other classes for that). From there you will learn the basics of mixing your own paint, care of brushes, how to select instruments and materials, blending colours… the fundamentals.
People have often commented that they find oil paint an intimidating medium and are nervous to take that first step. What I’ve found is that once you get you know it a little, it's really quite friendly. With the bar open and a relaxed atmosphere you should have a bunch of fun along the way to learning the basics of oil painting.

Not quite commercial gallery, not quite artist run space, The Motley Bauhaus is a new kind of art house. An art, craft and performance centre dedicated to promoting skills based art practices, encouraging intermingling across all disciplines and spreading art like a virus through the community. With a couple of exhibition spaces, workshop space, several studios, a theatre, a podcasting booth and a bar we are providing a space for artists to work, and to share their work and skills with each other the local community and the wider world at large.
The ethos of the space is derived from the Staatliches Bauhaus school opened in Germany in 1919 which combined art and craft and respected them equally. In that vein we are focused on promoting skills based arts practises and fostering creativity in the wider community by giving a home to artists of any and all disciplines and running various art and craft classes and related activity.
If you’re an artist then you can apply for our residency program, hire the podcasting booth or apply to put a show on in the theatre.
If you are a member of the general public then you might want to check out the wild array of workshops we have available.
If you are a business then you might want to get in touch to ask us about our corporate team building packages.
Our aim is simple; to make work for artists so that they may make art for the world.
