Your guide and experienced chef Tony Ching will show you how to shop for fresh Asian food at Toowoomba's Jasmine Asian Grocery. He’ll give you loads of hints and tips about choosing the best produce, advice on the key ingredients needed in your favourite dishes and insight into Asian food culture. You'll meet at the Jasmine at 9.30am, enjoy a wander and browse, then with shopping done you'll come back to Sauce and create a fabulous lunch in store using your produce.
Tony will teach you his tried-and-true family recipes - many from his grandmother. Recipes will depend a little on the produce available on the day but expect to make:
Wontons with pork and prawns
Steamed rice with Chinese sausage and eggs
Steamed Chinese bread
Braised beef with cherry tomatoes
Deep fried bananas with honey (using a milk batter)
Come along on your own and make some new friends, or make a group get-together. Our classes are great fun in a friendly atmosphere in our beautiful historic building.
* Please note, our classes require a minimum of six participants to operate, you will be eligible for a refund or re-schedule if a class does not go ahead.
You may have noticed an across-the-board increase in our booking prices. This is because the booking fee, which was previously charged separately, is now included in the class price. Please note that bookings made in-store will be charged the original price (no fee included).
If you have questions or concerns about this increase, please don’t hesitate to contact.
The latest Sauce cooking class was a great success. Chef Tony's engaging manner and his amazing knowledge made the Asian class a joy to do. The trip around the Chinese grocery store was a revelation and well worth the extra time. Then the combination of great recipes with great outcomes and the opportunity to eat what we produced made for a thoroughly enjoyable learning experience. Peter and Geraldine
Lots of different things about Asian cooking that i didn't know.
It was great to see how many dishes we could make with only a few ingredients. The variety and flavours were fantastic.
