Description

The Joy of Spring: Contemporary Ink Illustration with The Zingy Studio

Develop and explore contemporary ink illustrations for application on a range of surfaces inspired by the colours and textures of spring. We will focus on the use of coloured Artist Spectrum Inks using a range of brushes and other found tools to make interesting marks on different useful surfaces being predominantly paper. All experiments will form an inspiration kit attendees could use later on for gift giving, inspiration boards, or use in a planner, diary or notebook.

The workshop will cover the following main topics:

  • Imagination

  • Mark Making

  • Texture

  • Composition

The objective is to experiment with mark making, texture and, composition whilst being brave with colour. The inks are a very forgiving medium with unlimited mixing capacity so the colour palette will never turn to mud and dries really fast.  It is most commonly used like watercolour however, the colour will always maintain its lustre and intensity no matter how much it is diluted.

Attendees will learn about mark making and are free to make their designs as real or as abstract as they wish. We will then finish the session by creating a small range of more polished designs all following a specific theme/story and colour palette to take home on a range of stationery (greeting cards, envelopes, writing paper...).

Each attendee will receive a specially designed art folio (that can also be decorated with their own design) to store all the artworks they create for the journey home and hopefully continue to add to this in their own practice following the workshop. (Learning is lifelong and shouldn’t end when the workshop does!)

This workshop is suitable for anyone wanting to unwind from a busy week, look at some beautiful springtime flowers and be inspired by colour and nature. It’ll be a time to paint freely, eat some tasty sweet treats and sip cups of hot tea. No artistic training or experience necessary.
