Connect with your inner creativity

Over 10 people have attended this class

Please bring any of your own photos, books, magazines and materials you may want to collage with! 3-d objects are also welcome - this is all about experimenting. Materials will be provided but it's always nice to re-purpose items around your home!

Did you know that tapping in to your creative energy can improve your overall health and well being?  It is well recognised that creative engagement can decrease anxiety, stress, and other mental health issues.  MakerSpace & co thinks that we all could do with a bit of a well being boost. We've all been affected by what's been happening over the last two years; it's been tough.

This is why MakerSpace & co is introducing a series of creative workshops, that focus on mindful making, artistic self expression and building social connections.  Think of it as a creative tonic to pick you up. Working with qualified art therapists, our Maker Therapy series is an opportunity for you to take a breath, practice some self care and get to meet other people in a safe and inclusive space.

You'll get the opportunity to try activities that will stimulate your creative energy, and get lost in the flow of making, without the pressure of being outcome focused.  It is all about immersing yourself in the play, rather than focusing on the end result.

An altered book is a book (can be found, bought used, or new) that is taken and transformed through many different processes, including but not limited to: painting, cutting, collaging, stitching, gluing, or adding 3-d objects to it.

Using art therapy techniques, we will be creating altered book visual journals using a number of different techniques. Examples of different techniques include black-out poetry, collaging, journal prompts, dream processes and more!

Visual journaling is a great way to release stress, inspire creativity, process emotions, foster joy and to practice self-care. You will leave this workshop with an altered book visual journal and numerous practices to continue working on in your own time.

No art making skills required, come as you are to explore and unleash your creativity!

The facilitators created a very peaceful creative space for this workshop to bloom. My daughter and I enjoyed creating something lovely together, and we would do this again.

It was so wonderful to be able to create among a group of people who shared each other’s creativity and love of art. It was such a freeing and welcoming space where one feels completely unjudged and free to do whatever the heart desires. Emily and Zoey were so friendly and helpful, making it very clear there were no rules and you could go in whatever direction you were taken in.
